Ramps hammers Scots
Mark Ramprakash
Mark Ramprakash was in excellent form for Surrey
C&G Trophy 3rd round, Grange: Surrey 246-2 (50 overs) beat Scotland 63-4 (24.1 overs) by 55 runs (D/L Method)

England batsman Mark Ramprakash was the hammer of the Scots as he led Surrey to an emphatic victory in a rain-interrupted Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy third-round tie.

Ramprakash made 101 not out as Surrey recovered from the early loss of Ali Brown to win by 55 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method.

The English county had set the Scots part-timers a daunting total of 246 for 2 at The Grange in Edinburgh.

Opener Greig Williamson contributed a top score of 22 as Scotland struggled to 63 for 4 when rain stopped play after 24.1 overs and with the Scots well adrift of the required run rate.

Meeting with Glamorgan

Jimmy Ormond's inspired seven-over spell, which included two wickets and yielded just nine runs, left Surrey firmly in command and ultimately secured a last-16 meeting with Glamorgan.

Williamson was the only batsman to offer any resistance, spending almost an hour-and-a-half over his 22.

Ryan Watson and Craig Wright - 14 and nine not out respectively when play was stopped - would have found it difficult to carry their side into the next round even if the match had the weather not intervened.

Scotland had enjoyed a dream start, potential destroyer Brown being lured by Kevin Thomson into an uppish drive that Williamson held at cover.

But, despite a scoring being difficult on a slow pitch, Ramprakash was aided by a 58 from Ian Ward and an unbeaten 65 by Nadeem Shahid as Surrey set an excellent total that was beyond the Scots.
