Team-mates remembered
Sussex are mourning Umer Rashid
Sussex and Surrey observed a minute's silence in memory of Umer Rashid and Ben Hollioake prior to the start of their three-day friendly match at Hove on Wednesday.
Both players, young all-rounders, died tragically in the weeks running up to the new county season. The home side are mourning the loss Rashid, who drowned during the county's pre-season tour of Granada. That tragedy came just a fortnight after Surrey's Hollioake was killed in a car crash in Australia. Talks were held between the counties and at one point it seemed the match might be cancelled. Sussex captain Chris Adams said: "Getting back to playing again is something both sides are going to find hard to do, but it is a step forward we will both have to make." The two sides meet again at The Oval in their opening County Championship match of the season on 19 April. |
