Harrogate cricket club want top four finish

Harrogate Cricket Club captain Ryan Bradshaw has challenged his players for a top four finish in this year's Yorkshire Premier League.

Last year Harrogate finished seventh after being in the bottom four for the previous four years.

Bradshaw told BBC Radio York: "We've been together for another year and the team is pretty much similar.

"We're going to finish higher than sixth and really I said we want to be finishing top four."

He added: "That's where we want to be. We had a meeting and I said we've got two targets.

"One is to finish higher than what we did last year. I thought last year we played very poorly at the start of the year and poorly at the back end of the year. We played some good cricket in the middle."

Bradshaw said there are only a couple of changes to his team to the one he had in 2010.

"John Proud has dropped down into the second team to strengthen them and bring on the junior players," he said.

"Adam Prior has come in from Knaresborough. He's been scoring a lot of runs in local cricket so he's had his chance to come up here and show us what he can do. We've not seen the best of him yet.

"Sam Biker comes in for Dominic Sharpe who joined Castleford. Sam's a very good batsman and he'll bowl our first change. He seems a good bowler, what I've seen so far.

"We had an interesting winter with our signings. I thought I'd signed an overseas and another spinner and they let us down. It's fate I suppose now with the lads in the second team that I brought up. We've got a decent team."

Harrogate's next game is against York who are going for a record fifth consecutive title.

Bradshaw said: "A team like York are still going to be strong and that's going to be the toughest fixture of the year."
