Kiwis call up one-day experts
Chris Harris
Chris Harris: A respected performer in one-day cricket
New Zealand have announced a specialist one-day squad for three limited overs internationals in Zimbabwe and next month's ICC Knockout event in Kenya.

Batsman Roger Twose, all-rounder Chris Harris, wicket-keeper/batsman Chris Nevin and fast bowler Geoff Allott will join the rest of the squad in Zimbabwe later this month.

The squad will also stay together for a one-day series in South Africa, which follows the ICC tournament.

Convenor of selectors Sir Richard Hadlee confirmed that they were working towards the establishment of specialist Test and one-day teams.

"While there is a nucleus of players in the side for Test and one-day international cricket, the skills required for each form of the game are different and the programme for each is also becoming much more demanding.

Roger Twose
Twose: Adds strength to the middle order
"It makes sense to be heading towards speciality sides," he said.

Harris is a veteran of 154 one-day internationals, having scored 2,778 runs, with one hundred and 10 fifties, and taken 144 wickets with his crafty medium-pace inswing bowling.

Twose has made 1,853 runs at an average of 37.06 in 63 one-day appearances, while Allott has taken 46 wickets at an average of just 18.84 in 24 matches.

Nevin made his debut against Australia earlier this year, scoring 74 in his side's seven-wicket victory at Eden Park, Auckland. His selection is, however, subject to him poassing a fitness test.

Mark Richardson, Matthew Sinclair, Daryl Tuffey and Shayne O'Connor will fly home from Zimbabwe once the three Test matches are completed.

New Zealand one-day squad: Stephen Fleming (captain), Nathan Astle, Chris Nevin, Roger Twose, Chris Cairns, Craig McMillan, Chris Harris, Dion Nash, Scott Styris, Daniel Vettori, Geoff Allott, Paul Wiseman, Adam Parore, Craig Spearman.
