Wednesday's Ashes gossip column - Australia v England

BREAKING GOSSIP

1725 GMT: Spinner Nathan Hauritz feels he is not yet a certainty for Australia's Ashes team, after taking 0-57 from nine overs on the first day of New South Wales's game against Victoria - and was not even aware of when the team was due to be announced. "You don't get picked if you're not bowling well, simple as that," he admits.

1206 GMT: The Umpire Decision Review System - which will be used for the first time in an Ashes series this winter - will be used even more when it becomes less costly, according to International Cricket Council general manager of cricket David Richardson. "In 23 Tests since October 2009, 84 possible on-field umpiring errors were recorded and 57 were corrected (by UDRS), which has lifted the correct decision percentage from 92.04% to 97.68%," he said. 1145 GMT: England may field an unchanged XI - in other words, their likely Test XI - in their second warm-up game against South Australia in Adelaide (which begins at 2330 GMT on Wednesday evening). But Ashes ticket sales to England fans are well down on 2006/07 because of the recession and the strength of the Aussie dollar.
