Island umpire takes up Trevor Henry Fund scholarship

Kenworthy also umpired at the European U-19 tournament

Isle of Man cricket umpire David Kenworthy has taken the opportunity to develop his skills through the Trevor Henry Fund scholarship.

Kenworthy was one of four umpires from around Europe to receive the scholarship and undertake a placement.

During the experience Kenworthy visited Ireland to umpire in domestic league and cup matches.

He told BBC Isle of Man: "I have learnt a great deal and I hope it will be of great benefit to Manx cricket."

He added: "I will do my best to pass on all that I have learnt, to continue the development of the sport on the island."

The scholarship is named after Trevor Henry, who moved through the domestic levels in Irish cricket to umpire at international level.

"It has been very exciting to broaden my horizons and learn from some exceptional umpires

This elevation saw him recommended for ICC European tournaments and subsequently recommended for the inaugural ICC Associate and Affiliate Panel (now International Panel).

This involved initial training followed by umpiring at a WCQ tournament in Malaysia, Intercontinental Cup matches and then the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which Trevor was selected for but never made due to illness.

Kenworthy added: "The experience has been very positive and I would really like to work towards the European Elite Panel."
