York have created Yorkshire Premier League history by winning the title for a record fourth time in a row.

York beat Hull by seven wickets at Clifton Park on Saturday to clinch the title with three games to spare.

"We've got a good set of young lads who've all knuckled down," York skipper Marcus Wood told BBC Radio York.

"They've all done very well at vital times. Whenever we've needed to win games, somebody's played a vital part and won the game for us."

Wood, who has captained all four of those title-winning sides, added: "It's been a good team effort with some outstanding individuals out there."

Spinners Tom Pringle (7-62) and Daniel Woods (3-43) did the job on Saturday, dismissing Hull for 166.

York then reached 167-3 in just 19.1 overs, during which opener Duncan Snell passed 1,000 runs for the season in hitting 83 not out.

"I'm very, very happy, especially to do it on the day we won the league as well," said Snell. "I just got over 1,000 last year, 1,013, so hopefully I'll beat that this year."

Despite winning the league comfortably, Snell added: "It's been an up-and-down year. We've won every game but we don't feel like we got out of first gear."

On the two spinners Pringle and Woods, Snell said: "You just know they're going to take us the wickets and do us the job."

Chairman and wicket-keeper Nigel Durham added: "It's a fantastic achievement for the club."

York have already won the Yorkshire League Cup this summer and their aim is to go the entire season unbeaten, something else which has never been achieved before.

"In the overall scheme of things it's not that important because we've just won the league," added Wood, "but it would be nice to do it!

"We've got a game on Monday so we'll just see what happens on Monday."
