Anderson wants to captain England

England fast bowler James Anderson has revealed an ambition to captain his country.

The 27-year-old Lancashire star said he was "gutted" at not getting the role of vice-captain, which was given to batsman Alastair Cook.

"It's something I'd like to do - be captain - but as a fast bowler and from the north, I suppose I'm very unlikely to get a look in," he said.

England's most recent fast-bowling captain was Bob Willis in the 1980s.

Anderson, from Burnley, said: "I'm gutted that I didn't get the vice-captaincy.

"It wasn't even mentioned to me but I'd like the chance one day. I've been a captain in junior cricket in years gone by."

Anderson has taken 140 wickets in 42 Test matches and played a key role in England recapturing the Ashes during the summer.
