Brett Lee bowled himself into contention for the final Ashes Test with three wickets in Australia's 103-run victory over England Lions.

The fast bowler, who has not featured since sustaining a side injury at the start of July, took 3-37 from 16 overs in the two-day match at Canterbury.

Off-spinner Nathan Hauritz, dropped for the fourth Test win, served a timely reminder of his skills with 2-43.

Captain Jamie Dalrymple (58) was the pick of the Lions batsmen.

With Ben Hilfenhaus and Mitchell Johnson likely to start at The Oval, Lee faces a battle with Peter Siddle, Stuart Clark and Hauritz for the final two bowling spots.

Lee struck in the first over when Yorkshire's Joe Sayers, a late replacement for Jonathan Trott, was caught behind by Chris Hartley for a painful four from 40 deliveries.

The Queensland wicketkeeper was plucked from Lancashire League side Chorley to enable Brad Haddin and Graham Manou to rest minor injuries.

Lee, who has not played a Test match in 2009, soon accounted for Stephen Moore, curtailing a confident innings of 30 when Simon Katich took a brilliant one-handed diving catch at backward point.

Hartley collected his second catch when Hampshire's Michael Carberry edged Johnson for five, leaving the the Lions precariously placed at 47-3.

A 64-run fourth-wicket partnership between Andrew Gale and Dalrymple steadied the innings, but two wickets in successive deliveries from Hauritz shortly after lunch effectively ended the Lions' resistance.

The New South Wales spinner removed Gale for 31 before Steve Davies was dismissed for a golden duck, caught at slip by Australia captain Ricky Ponting.

Dalrymple notched his half century but fell to the last delivery before tea, edging Siddle for Hartley's third catch of the afternoon.

Warwickshire's Chris Woakes scored a patient 36 before he was caught and bowled by part-time spinner Marcus North, while Liam Plunkett was cleaned up by Lee for a breezy 34.

The dismissal sparked a bizarre incident when a seagull swooped on one of the dislodged bails, escaping with its plunder with Lee in hot pursuit.

A replacement bail was summoned by the umpires, although the game was over minutes later when Katich wrapped up a comfortable victory when he had Gary Keedy caught by Shane Watson.
