Netherlands too classy for Jersey

Jersey slumped to a 146-run defeat at the hands of the Netherlands in their ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifier at FB Fields on Thursday.

The Netherlands made a formidable 296 from their fifty overs with opener Alexei Kervezee scoring 155.

Jersey's coach Craig Hogan believed his side missed a real chance against the Netherlands side.

"We dropped eight catches in total, Kervezee on 40 and 80 and you can't do that at this level."

Hogan told BBC Jersey: "You take his 155 out and we were in with a shout."

Kervezee who opens for Worcestershire was involved in a big first-wicket stand with Allema, the pair put on 129 before Ben Stevens bowled Allema for 32.

If we can play like we did against Scotland and actually take it to them a little bit we'll be a chance

Stevens was the best of the Jersey bowler with figures of 2-27 from his ten overs.

In reply Jersey were soon in trouble losing four quick wickets before the experienced pair of Stevens (24) and captain Anthony Kay (54) took the score to 93.

Once they were out, Jersey crumbled to be all out for 150 in 42.2 overs.

Jersey now sits in fourth place with two games to play.

Hogan wants his team to be focussed when they face top of the table Ireland on Saturday.

"The plan is to play as well as we can against Ireland and if we can play like we did against Scotland and actually take it to them a little bit we'll be a chance."

Jersey play Ireland at Les Quennevais on Saturday 18 with play commencing at 11am.
