Ashes: Gower leads England to series win in 1985

David Gower captained England to a comprehensive 3-1 series win against Australia in 1985, leading by example with 732 runs in the series.

Gower's majestic 215 in the 5th Test at Edgbaston put England on the way to an innings victory and a 2-1 series lead. Another innings victory followed in the Sixth Test at the Oval and the Ashes were regained.

England opener Tim Robinson also enjoyed the summer of 1985, hitting big centuries at Headingley and Edgbaston.

And the swing bowling of Richard Ellison, who took 10 for 79 in that 5th Test at Edgbaston, was another highlight for the home fans.
