Hosts beat Gibraltar in last over

Guernsey beat Gibraltar by four wickets in Monday's first completed game of the ICC WCL Division Seven.

After being put in, teenager Kieran Ferrary top-scored with 90 as the visitors ran up 227 from 50 overs.

Needing 33 runs off the last four overs Guernsey were under intense pressure but Justin Meades steered the home side to victory in the final over.

"I don't think many will chase down that kind of total this week. It showed guts and determination," said Meades.

"We had plenty of wickets in hand and we needed about eight an over when I went in.

"But Ben Ferbrache kept it ticking over quite nicely, and they had one of their fifth choice bowlers bowling so we knew we could hit with the wind."

Having suffered heavy defeats in their previous two games (by nine wickets and seven wickets respectively), Gibraltar were pleased to run their hosts as close as they did.

Man of the match Ferrary said: "Normally we're finished by two o'clock so to get them down to the last three balls was a pretty good effort by the boys. It was almost like a victory in itself for us.

"We highlighted Guernsey as the strongest team and to push them all the way has given us a massive boost and shows we can do it against the best."
