An unbeaten fifth-wicket partnership between Eoin Morgan and Kevin O'Brien ensured an Irish victory over Canada in Monday's World Cup qualifier.

Canada, who like Ireland were already through to the Super Eights, posted 220 with Geoff Barnett top-scoring with 49.

Ireland, seeking a fourth straight win, looked in trouble at 42-4.

But Middlesex's Morgan, celebrating his call-up for England's World Twenty20 squad, hit 84 and O'Brien 89 to steer the Irish to a six-wicket success.

Ireland are now the only side with a 100% record in the qualifying games, having already beaten Scotland, Oman and Uganda.

Their final group game is against Namibia on Wednesday.

Morgan said the cheap loss of the four early wickets did not concern him.

"I was pretty calm about it. It was a good wicket so by building a solid base I could be there at the end," said the Middlesex player.

"Kevin and I complement each other quite well at the crease.

"He is an aggressive player who hits boundaries pretty much anywhere he wants while I like to accumulate my runs so it was a good partnership.

"The right-left combination worked well, especially as the wicket was not turning.

"The spinners found it very difficult to settle and then we made it tough for them at the end," added Morgan.
