Sri Lanka thrashed Bangladesh by 158 runs in Karachi to book their place in the final of the Asia Cup.

After Sri Lanka won the toss and batted, Sanath Jayasuriya, on his 39th birthday, smashed six sixes in his 130 which came off just 80 balls.

He added 201 for the first wicket with Kumar Sangakkara (121) as they finished on 332-8 from their 50 overs.

Then, spinner Muttiah Muralitharan took 5-31 as the Tigers were bowled out for 174 with 11.3 overs to spare.

It was Muralitharan's first five-wicket haul in one-day internationals since he claimed 5-23 against an under-strength Zimbabwe side in Harare in April 2004, and it ended Bangladesh's very faint hopes of qualification.

Only Nazimuddin (47) and Raqibul Hasan (52) provided any resistance as eight Bangladesh batsmen failed to reach double figures, while they failed to make the most of the absence of Sri Lanka pacemen Lasith Malinga and Farveez Maharoof.

For Sangakkara, it was a second century in consecutive days after he hit 112 to beat Pakistan on Sunday, and the left-handed pair set a new Asia Cup record opening stand.

Man-of-the-match Jayasuriya finally fell at 201-1, having become the second-oldest player to score an ODI hundred - the oldest being England's Geoff Boycott against Australia in Sydney in 1979 - when he was caught at deep extra cover by Tamim Iqbal off leg-spinner Alok Kapali.

Although Sangakkara lacked support after that, he kept going until he was sixth man out in the 45th over with the score at 292 - while he did not take the field in the Tigers innings, so Tillakaratne Dilshan deputised for him as wicketkeeper.
