Australia beat New Zealand by six wickets.

Australia moved to within one Test match victory of the West Indies' world record winning run as they wrapped up a comprehensive victory over New Zealand in Hamilton.

The tourists romped to a six-wicket success with more than a day to spare to complete a 3-0 series whitewash of their neighbours.

He was down and out going into the Hobart Test (against Pakistan last November) and he's come away with four centuries. At the moment, he is the best batsman in the world.

The win was Australia's 10th in a row and they can now equal the world record of 11 when they take on the holders, the West Indies, in what should be a fascinating contest next summer.

Justin Langer ended unbeaten on 122 off 122 balls to see Australia through to 212 for four after bowling New Zealand out for 229 in their second innings on Sunday.

Starting the fourth day needing just 73 runs to win, Langer and captain Steve Waugh began the morning in the same aggressive fashion as they had ended the previous afternoon, taking 10 runs off the first over from Chris Cairns.

Langer went on to reach his seventh test century, hitting his 19th boundary to give Australia victory.

Waugh made 18 before retiring hurt after being struck on the wrist by a delivery from Daryl Tuffey.

Damien Martyn lasted just 10 minutes before being given out lbw for four with the score at 190, but by then the tourists were all but home.

It was fitting that Adam Gilchrist was with Langer at the end to complete the win, as the wicketkeeper was named man of the match for his all-round display.

Gilchrist took 10 dismissals in the game, one short of the world record and made a dogged 75 in Australia's first innings.
