Cricket South Africa has demanded an investigation into controversial remarks made by Kevin Pietersen.
Pietersen must wait to discover whether he faces an investigation
In a recent magazine interview, the England batsman reiterated his complaints about the racial quota system in his native country.
He also commented on the match-fixing scandal involving Hansie Cronje.
Pietersen, 26, could face a ban of four Test matches or eight one-day internationals if held to account by the International Cricket Council.
An ICC spokesman refused to comment other than to confirm that the game's governing body has received a letter from Cricket South Africa asking for an investigation into Pietersen's views.
The remarks published in GQ magazine sparked a furious response in South Africa as the middle-order batsman criticised their strategy of minimum racial quotas, which he feels forced him out of the country of his birth.
Pietersen must wait to find out whether his comments will be looked into by the ICC but could be disciplined for 'inappropriate public comment'.
