India ask ICC to drop umpire Hair
Darrell Hair
Pakistan have already asked for Hair to be omitted
Hosts India have asked the International Cricket Council to omit umpire Darrell Hair from next month's ICC Champions Trophy.

Hair was at the centre of last month's forfeited Test at The Oval after he penalised Pakistan for ball-tampering.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq faces a discipinary hearing on Wednesday.

"There was a lot of controversy and there are certain issues like crowd behaviour etc," said Indian cricket board secretary Niranjan Shah.

"We wanted to avoid unnecessary incidents."

Pakistan have already asked the ICC to drop Hair, a member of the elite umpires' panel, from the tournament, which begins on 7 October.

An ICC spokesman in Dubai confirmed a letter had been sent but added: "It is up to the ICC to appoint the best umpires and officials which we will do in due course."

Amid the initial controversy, Hair offered to resign in exchange for $500,000 (£263,000), but has now decided to continue his umpiring career.

He will attend Inzamam's two-day ICC hearing, starting at The Oval on Wednesday, to consider charges of ball-tampering and bringing the game into disrepute.
