Atapattu suffers new injury blow
Marvan Atapattu
Atapattu is a veteran of 253 one-dayers and 88 Tests
Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu will not play any further part in the home series against Pakistan after suffering a recurrence of a back injury.

Atapattu played in Friday's opening one-day game in Colombo, which was abandoned following heavy rain.

But he will miss the two remaining one-dayers and the two Tests which follow, with Mahela Jayawardene taking over as skipper.

Atapattu missed a recent series in Bangladesh because of his back.

And he now faces a period of further rest in the hope of being fit for a tour to England, which begins in May.

News of his injury continues a run of bad luck for Sri Lanka, who have already lost pace bowlers Chaminda Vaas (side strain) and Ruchira Perera (hamstring) and batsman Sanath Jayasuriya (thigh) from the one-day squad.

Pakistan's tour schedule has been revised, meanwhile, because of the uncertain weather.

Reserve days have now been made available for the one-day games on Sunday and next Wednesday.

As a result, the starts dates of the Tests have been put back to the 26th and 2nd April.

"There has been a sudden change in the island's weather, which is unusual for this time of year and was not anticipated when we planned the itinerary.

"Although it will increase our costs slightly, we made the changes because we feel we have a duty to the paying spectator to try and make sure the maximum cricket is played," said Sri Lanka Board board secretary Adel Hassim.
