England 209-5 (38.5 overs) beat Bangladesh 208-7 (50 overs) by five wickets

Andrew Strauss hit 98 to lead England into the NatWest Series final with a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh.

The left-hander dismissed looking for a boundary to complete his ton but England still passed a target of 209 with 66 balls to spare.

Stand-in captain Marcus Trescothick made 43 and there were cameos from Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen.

Earlier, Flintoff took 4-29 while Javed Omar scored a painstaking 81 in Bangladesh's 208-7 at Headingley.

38th over: Jones comes to the crease with England needing one run from the 70 balls remaining. A leg-side wide sees England win it with 66 balls to spare.

38th over: WICKET: Looking for four to win the game, Strauss goes for a big shot at Manjural and misses.

38th over: Strauss gets a massive leading edge which falls safely at deep cover and bounces over a fumbling Shariar on the boundary, with the Western Terrace enjoying every moment. Collingwood edges four, apparently denying Strauss his ton. Back on strike, Strauss flogs six to move to 98.

37th over:Strauss looks like he will miss out on three figures as he takes a single to move to 84 with 20 runs needed to win. 191-4

36th over: Collingwood gets off the mark punching Mortaza for three to deep midwicket. 188-4

35th over: WICKET Manjural returns for his eighth over and has Pietersen caught on the rope at long on, the batsman just getting too much underneath the delivery.

33rd over: Pietersen swats a short one from Rafique over midwicket for his first six of the innings. 174-3

32nd over: Strauss drives sweetly through the covers but his shot is stopped at the boundary. TV official Nigel Llong is in action again to confirm Pietersen is safely back in his ground after being beaten by Aftab. The batsman then punishes the medium-pacer with a thrash through the covers. 166-3

31st over: The TV umpire is called in to confirm Pietersen's first scoring shot is not six but four, a dismissive flick over midwicket. 157-3

30th over: Strauss takes a single but Pietersen cannot get off the mark yet. 152-3

29th over: WICKET Rafique takes his second wicket as Solanki plays across a looping delivery that straightens to hit him on the knee roll ion middle and leg.

23 overs: WICKET Flintoff carves Rafique to the boundary rope but Rafique exacts revenge and has the Lancashire all-rounder lbw attempting an ugly hoik. There is a suggestion the ball would have missed the off-stump. 136-2.

22 overs: England continue to nudge, nurdle and chip and add six to their total. 128-1.

21 overs: Rafique has Strauss in trouble but Mashud cannot gather the ball behind the stumps. 122-1.

15 overs: The wily Rafique also joins the attack and is unceremoniously hammered through mid-wicket for four and then dumped over the ropes for six, both times by Trescothick. 97-0.

14 overs: Left-arm spinner Manjural joins the attack early and Trescothick cuts his second ball away for four. Strauss then flicks one away for a single and his 50. 84-0.

13 overs: Hossain throws in a slower ball that foxes Trescothick but the England opener crashes the fifth ball over the square-leg boundary for six. 73-0.

12 overs: Trescothick has to dig out a Mortaza yorker and slices the next ball away for two. 64-0.

11 overs: Three boundaries from Strauss - the first laced through point, the second a beautifully-timed cut, the third a well-timed cover drive. 57-0.

10 overs: Strauss works Mortaza off his legs for four and England take seven from the over. 45-0.

9 overs: Strauss picks Hossain up from just short of a length for a four through mid-wicket and then steeples an attempted drive - but Rafique is unable to make the ground. 38-0.

8 overs: Strauss continues to struggle with his timing but Trescothick of Somerset finally gets back on strike last ball of the over - and blocks the delivery. 29-0.

7 overs: Hossain has another effusive lbw shout turned down by Dar, the ball maybe pitching outside leg stump. 26-0.

6 overs: Strauss shows the maker's name to Mortaza for a scurried two and skies a hoik next ball - but Rafique spills it on the run at third man. 24-0.

5 overs: Strauss cover drives for four and prods Hossain straight down the ground for two. Hossain then goes up for an lbw shout but umpire Aleem Dar adjudges that the ball would have passed the off-stump. 16-0.

4 overs: Trescothick gets a thick outside edge for two and England appear to be in no great hurry as they begin their chase of a modest target. 7-0.

3 overs: A maiden over from Hossain should settle the youngster's nerves. 5-0.

2 overs: Strauss leaves Mortaza's first ball which just goes over his off-stump but the Middlesex batsman gets off the mark with a single. 5-0.

1 over: Seventeen-year-old Nazmul Hossain takes the first over, not Mortaza as usual, and Trescothick clips a juicy half-volley off his legs for four first ball. 4-0.

Bangladesh innings

50 overs: Flintoff gives Mashud a whiff of leather with a bouncer and almost runs him out from his third delivery. Bangladesh are restricted to six off the last over. 208-7.

49 overs: Mashud begins to free his arms, crashing Gough through the covers for four and improvising to glide him down to third man for another boundary. Thirteen off the over. 202-7.

48 overs: WICKET Flintoff gives his yorker another outing and beats Mortaza all ends up for his fourth wicket. The free-wheeling Mohammad Rafique comes to the crease. 189-7.

47 overs: Taking his cue from Flintoff, Gough attempts to get his yorker going and has Mashrafe Mortaza struggling for room. But Mortaza gets off the mark with a single. 188-6.

46 overs: WICKET Flintoff brings out the yorker and Omar finally falls for a painstaking 81. 183-6. (Omar 81)

45 overs: Khaled Mashud takes 10 off Jones' over, including a well-timed off-drive for four. 178-5.

44 overs: Bangladesh continue to frustrate with their negative mindset and only four runs are added to the total. 167-5.

39 overs: More nurdling from Bangladesh off Gough when perhaps boundaries are the order of the day. 146-5.

37 overs: Gough is brought back into the attack and is as mean as the rest of his bowling colleagues. 138-4.

36 overs: Collingwood tries a repeat of his earlier run-out but fails to collect the ball from cover point and Omar is safe. 134-4.

35 overs: Omar hints at a change in approach by driving Collingwood down the ground for four. Collingwood's riposte is a nice slower delivery which beats the outside edge. 130-4.

34 overs: Giles reapplies the brakes before the second drinks break of the innings but Omar reaches his 50 off 118 balls. It remains to be seen when Bangladesh's accelaration will begin. 123-4.

33 overs: Aftab lofts Collingwood over mid-on for Bangladesh's first boundary since the 16th over. 121-4.

32 overs: The miserly Giles keeps a lid on the Bangladesh batsmen and Omar and Aftab Ahmed Khaled will have to start thinking about their late attack. 116-4.

31 overs: More tight stuff from Collingwood and the crowd are reduced to silence as Bangladesh toil. 115-4.

30th over: WICKET Collingwood runs out skipper Bashar with a direct hit when wicket-keeper Geraint Jones appeared to have missed the chance. 113-4. (Bashar 10)

29th over: Omar and Bashar are happy to keep blocking and it appears Bangladesh's main aim is to see out the 50 overs rather than chase big runs. 111-3.

27th over: Omar breaks the shackles with a lofted drive over mid-on for three but Collingwood is otherwise tidy. 104-3.

26th over: Spinner Ashley Giles is wheeled out and a wide down the leg side brings up Bangladesh's 100. 101-3.

25th over: Bashar and Omar continue to struggle as Collingwood comes into the attack and the Bangladesh innings reaches the half-way stage. 98-3.

16th over: Nine runs come from Flintoff's second over and there is a sense that the visitors could be in for a profitable day. The teams break for drinks. 82-1.

15th over: Tushar slashes and Flintoff puts down a difficult diving chance at second slip and then drives Tremlett for four. Ten runs are milked from the Hampshire man's over. 73-1.

11th over: Tremlett's first delivery just misses Tushar outside edge. His second is almost caught by Collingwood at backward point. Trescothick should have caught Omar off his fifth but Flintoff dives across him at second slip and puts him off. 50-1.

10th over: Jones bowls a far more steady over. 49-1.

9th over:Gough is hit for two boundaries. It is an expensive over for the Yorkshireman who began well. 49-1.

8th over: Jones continues to bowl wides. Tushar and Omar push around for singles 34-1.

7th over: Tushar is the next batsman to come to the crease. Gough is unlucky not to take his first wicket after Omar top edges, who is lucky to grab four runs. 29-1.

6th over: WICKET Jones takes his first wicket following an uneasy start. Shahriar plays a top edge to Marcus Trescothick. 22-1 (Shahriar 11)

5th over: This time Gough is smacked for four following a square drive from Shahriar. 21-0.

4th over: The left-handed Shahriar smashes away Jones' outside off delivery for four. 17-0.

3rd over: Another steady over from Gough, although Omar did managed to push a shot to midwicket for a couple of runs. 12-0.

2nd over: Simon Jones bowls four wides. Shariar ensures he will not be out for a duck with a cheeky single. 8-0.

1st over: Darren Gough opens the bowling, while Javed Omar and Shahriar Nafees open the batting for Bangladesh. There is encouragement for Gough who produces a bit of seam movement and swing. Omar gets the tourists off the mark. 2-0 .
