North Down claimed a 19-run triumph in the NCU Senior Cup final as Belfast Harlequins were bowled out for 189 in their second innings at Stormont.

Wayne Horwood tried to rally Harlequins by hitting 79 but he was crucially caught and bowled by David Kennedy.

Harlequins, struggling in Section One, did well to restrict the Comber team to 165 for eight off their 50 overs in the second innings at Stormont.

In the first innings, Harlequins posted 199 for 9 and North Down's 242 for 4.

David Kennedy claimed the man-of-the-match award by adding 64 to his 105 not out from the first innings.

The victory earned North Down their 29th success in the competition.

Play had to be extended into a third day after the rain interruptions on Thursday.

  • In the North-West Cup final, Donemana held their nerve to claim an eight-wicket win over a battling Strabane outfit.

Strabane had posted a fine second innings total of 264 for 8 which left Donemana requiring 151.

But 72 from man-of-the-match Azhar Shaffique which added to his 129 from the first innings, did most to ensure that Donemana eased to victory as they hit 154 for 2.

Donemana posted 266 in their first innings which gave them a lead of 114 but Strabane fought back to make a game of it.

Some hard-hitting from Peter Gillespie boosted Strabane's second innings with the Irish international contributing 87 from 91 balls.

His brother Mark also weighed in with 58.

  • In Friday's Royal Liver Assurance Senior Cup quarter- final an unbeaten 120 by international Trent Johnston helped Clontarf (226-2) beat Pembroke (222-8) by eight wickets.

Clontarf now play Strabane in the 14 August semi-final with north-west clubs Brigade and Limavady meeting in the other game.
