ICC bows to Sri Lanka plea
M Muralitharan
Muralitharan has been Sri Lanka's leading bowler for years
The International Cricket Council has agreed to a request by Sri Lanka to speed up the review process which examines suspect bowling actions.

Sri Lanka Cricket had objected to the handling of the Muttiah Muralitharan affair and the ICC has now acted.

The ICC said in a statement: "The process will be fast-tracked as far as possible without compromising the integrity of the research."

More research will be conducted at the ICC Champions Trophy in September.

After that tournament a sub-committee of former Test players Tim May, Aravinda de Silva and Angus Fraser will review the current ICC two-stage bowling review process and the levels of tolerance.

Muralitharan went through a series of physiological tests before the ICC ordered him to stop bowling the doosra.

He was not suspended from bowling in the interim and set the world record for most wickets in Test cricket.

He increased his career haul to 527 during a tour of Zimbabwe but skipped the current tour of Australia.
