Matt Prior hit his maiden century in one-day cricket as Sussex stormed to only their third totesport win of the season, at the expense of Durham.

Prior powered his way to 119 from 135 balls in the day-night game in Hove to help Sussex post a challenging 261-4.

Promotion-chasing Durham were never in the hunt after losing their first four wickets for 58, and closed on 162-8.

Gary Pratt ensured that they used their full allocation of 45 overs before losing by 99 runs.

Sussex went into the game smarting from a heavy eight-wicket defeat by Yorkshire Phoenix but Prior responded in positive fashion by compiling 14 boundaries.

The 22-year-old wicket-keeper shared in a superb third wicket stand of 135 in 20 overs with skipper Chris Adams, who fired 81 from 69 balls.

His innings ended when he skied a ball from Neil Killeen and was caught at long on.

Durham, who would have gone top of the division if they had won, began their run chase poorly.

Marcus North played on to Mohammad Akram before skipper Jon Lewis was caught at the wicket attempting to cut Robin Martin-Jenkins.

West Indian Graeme Breese became Martin-Jenkins' second victim for 16 when he was pinned in front playing back.

The visitors promoted Pakistani pace ace Shoaib up the order, but he also fell cheaply to medium-pacer Martin-Jenkins.

Pratt and Gordon Muchall brought about respectability to their side's reply with a fifth wicket stand of 57 in 18 overs before Muchall was taken at backward point off Mushtaq Ahmed.

Former Pakistani leg-spinner Mushtaq finished with 2-37 from his nine overs while Martin-Jenkins produced a season's best 3-16 in seven overs.
