Trescothick's ability to dominate an attack from ball one makes him a hugely important member of the England one-day team.

He has scored more than 3,000 runs, only the sixth England batsman to reach that milestone.

The Somerset left-hander has hit seven one-day centuries, most recently a brilliant 130 off 138 balls against West Indies at St Lucia in May.

His strike rate of 86 is only surpassed by Andrew Flintoff (90) in the current England squad.

He is sometimes criticised for a lack of foot movement which can make him vulnerable early in his innings to a bowler capable of maintaining a tight off stump line.

But it is less of a problem in one-day cricket and England need Trescothick on top form if they are to have a chance of winning the tournament.
