Giles goes into the Champions Trophy full of confidence after arguably the best summer of his career.
He proved to be England's most effective weapon in the Test series whitewash of West Indies, taking 22 wickets at an average of 23.
Giles enjoyed one-day success when he took 5-57 against India in Delhi in 2002, a game England won by two runs.
But he has made infrequent appearances in the past year and only played twice in the NatWest Series.
He did not even get to bowl against New Zealand at Chester-le-Street as they reached a target of 102 in 17 overs and then took 0-43 as West Indies won by seven wickets at Lord's.
Giles is a useful batsman who has scored a one-day century for his county, but his not the nimblest in the field, an area of the game where spin bowling team-mate Gareth Batty has the edge.
