MURALI KARTIK
Slow left-arm bowler, left-handed batsman

FACTFILE
Born: 11.9.1976, Madras
Team: Railways
Test debut: v South Africa, Mumbai, 2000
ODI debut: v Zimbabwe, Hyderabad, 2002

Born in Madras, Kartik first made an impression during the India A tour to the Caribbean when he took 14 wickets in the first two 'Tests'.

Since making his senior debut the same year against South Africa, however, he has failed to find a permanent place in the team.

Even when India play three spinners he is seldom guaranteed a berth, though he continues to be a consistent wicket-taker at domestic level.

Perhaps he should be best regarded as player for the future with Anil Kumble's retirement not a million years away.

The few appearances he has had at top level have failed to bring him more than the odd wicket.
