This youngster has had a tough introduction to international cricket, managing just one fifty in eight innings in one-day matches.
A slightly-built man, he is an industrious batsman, who has inherited namesake Aravinda's slightly bow-legged stance, and bowls occasional leg-breaks.
He is also brilliant fielder, especially in the inner circle.
He excelled as captain of Royal College (Panadura) and was selected for the Under-19 squad for the 1998 Youth World Cup in South Africa.
Hit a classy 54 on his full international debut against an Australian side including Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne and will be hoping for a chance to repeat that form.
