India captain Sourav Ganguly has reiterated he would like Wasim Akram to join the squad as bowling coach.

Ganguly believes his bowlers would benefit from the depth of experience the former Pakistan captain has.

Last week the Board of Cricket Control in India denied it had approached Wasim to employ him for the Australia tour.

Ganguly said on Monday: "We would love to have help from him [Wasim] because he's probably one of the best fast bowlers I've seen."

Ganguly's comments are bound to wind up arch-rivals Pakistan, who believe Wasim should coach their squad ahead of India's.

Ganguly added: "There are a lot of sentiments attached to Wasim, it's a bit of a sensitive issue.

"But we would love to have him in the nets to look after the boys."

Left-armer Wasim, 37, retired from cricket in May with 414 Test wickets and a world record tally of 502 wickets in limited-overs cricket.

In October, the Indian government ended a three-year boycott of bilateral cricket matches against Pakistan, paving the way for the rivals to schedule a Test series in Pakistan in March next year.
