Kumar Sangakkara
Wicket-keeper; Left-hand batsman

K Sangakkara
DOB: 27.10.77
Test debut: v South Africa, Galle, 2000
ODI debut: v Pakistan, Galle, 2000

Has only been in the side for a fraction over three years but has already played in nearly 100 one-day internationals.

Tall and slim, he is an elegant driver of the ball and at his best is a joy to watch.

But not everyone is a fan. He rubbed up Mike Atherton the wrong way when England last toured, and is often accused of concentrating too much on backchat to opposition batsmen.

For some reason his confidence appeared to desert him in one-day cricket leading up to, and during, the World Cup.

But he still boasts a brilliant Test batting average - he seems to prefer having time to play himself in where he is allowed more patience.
