National League D1, Whitgift School: Surrey 298-5 beat Glamorgan 240 by 58 runs
Champions Glamorgan crashed to their sixth defeat of the season to leave them with a near-hopeless chance of defending their title.
That they were beaten by Surrey, who now move to the top of the table having still played two fewer matches than their Welsh rivals made defeat all the harder to take for the Dragons.
Victory for the Lions was set up by Mark Ramprakash and Graham Thorpe, at least one of whom perhaps should have been playing for England at Lord's.
Ramprakash (101) and Thorpe (77 not out) added 120 runs for the third wicket to leave just enough time for Adam Hollioake to smash four sixes and two fours in hitting 41 off just 16 balls.
Glamorgan were forced to turn to that most occasional of bowlers, Jimmy Maher, who bizarrely took two more wickets than any other bowler.
The Australian was less successful when he batted - first man out for six - and from then on the Dragons were always going to struggle to get close.
