Srinath is struggling injury
|
Indian pace bowler Javagal Srinath has raised fresh doubts about his international future after withdrawing from a training camp for the Test series against New Zealand later this year.
The 33-year-old, who was still considering his future after the World Cup, is currently in rehabilitation and asked to be ommitted from 36-man squad.
The veteran of 67 Tests quit Test cricket a year ago, saying he wanted to focus on the World Cup, but he was persuaded to return to the five-day game last October.
But Srinath told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) he was not well enough to take part in the camp.
"Srinath told the board he is not keeping well," confirmed Karunakaran Nair, secretary of the BCCI.
"He is undergoing rehabilitation and he's not fully fit.
"He will not be in the camp with the other probables, but depending
on his fitness, we will decide whether to pick him for the
series," Nair added.
There were no other surprises in the squad for the camp which starts in Bangalore on 14 August, with all the other members of the World Cup squad retained.
Sachin Tendulkar, who underwent hand surgery in April, and
Harbhajan Singh, who was treated for a finger injury, were both
included in the "probables" squad after regaining fitness.
Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh, who all play
in county cricket in England, have been excused from the camp
but will play a local Challenger series from 10-14 September.
India play two Tests against New Zealand in October
followed by a one-day triangular series also involving
Australia.
Indian cricket authorities have
shifted the first New Zealand Test from Kanpur
to Ahmedabad because of poor ground conditions at Green Park.
The BCCI made the
announcement on Tuesday after receiving an adverse report on the
ground from its pitches committee.
