Hossain expected to face Australia

Sanwar Hossain is likely to play in the forthcoming one-day series against Australia despite being reported by the umpires for a suspect bowling action.

The Bangladesh off-spinner was reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the second Test defeat to Australia.

Under ICC regulations Hossain can continue bowling for six weeks while his action is reviewed, but he can be no-balled by umpires if they are unhappy with his action.

That means playing him might be a risk but Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore said he had every intention of selecting the off-spinner.

"Under the processes laid down he's able to play," said Whatmore.

"He's a batsman as well [as a bowler] and he's a good fielder. Whether he bowls or not is up to the captain on the field."

Whatmore said he was still waiting to find out from the authorities whether it was Hossain's action in general, or one type of delivery in particular, that was arousing suspicion.

The off-spinner has a particular delivery, which comes out of the back of the hand, which Whatmore thinks may be the problem.

"We don't know whether it's that ball - we don't know what the umpires have written down," he said.

"A media release - that's all I've seen. I haven't had anything official from the ICC.

"I should be getting the umpires' report but the process slows up because it goes to London and London sends it back to the [Bangladesh] cricket board and the cricket board sends it back to us."

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have brought in batsman Tushar Imran and fast bowler Hasibul Hossain for the one-dayers against world champions Australia.

They are playing three ODIs, the first of which is in Cairns on 2 August.
