Letters from cricketing icon Sir Don Bradman mentioning a mystery woman are expected to fetch about 30,000 Australian dollars (£12,400) at auction in Sydney.

Bradman's god-daughter Jan Steele is auctioning the letters he wrote to her father, former Victorian cricketer and sport journalist Bert Kortlang.

Both men travelled with the Australian cricket team on the 1930 Ashes tour to England.

In the letters, Bradman mentions a woman called Nina and asks Kortlang, who lived in London at the time, to help him arrange a meeting with her.

It is not known whether the two did have a brief relationship.

But Bradman went on to marry his wife Jessie the following year and the couple were married until her death in 1997.

Bradman died in Adelaide on February 25, 2001, aged 93.

The auction, held by newly-created auction house Bonhams & Goodmans, will take place on 16 September.
