County Championship D1, Guildford, day two (stumps): Middlesex 346-8; Surrey 411
Jimmy Ormond was the star of the show in mid-afternoon but Middlesex fought back well to be in a position from which they could still gain a positive result.
Ormond grabbed four wickets in six balls including his maiden first-class hat-trick as Middlesex slumped from 163-1 to 165-6.
That came after Ormond had also done well with the bat, helping Saqlain Mushtaq (61 not out) add 89 for the final wicket.
When Middlesex beagn their innings, Andy Strauss (87) gave them an ideal start.
But then came the Ormond show and suddenly Surrey were thoroughly bossing affairs.
However, Abdul Razzaq (78) and David Nash had other ideas.
They added 155 for the seventh wicket and Nash (61 not out) was still there at the close.
