Frizzell County Championship
On what shold have been a busy day on the county scene, only the Essex v Leicestershire match avoided a complete washout as rain swept across England on Friday.
Play at Southend on the penultimate day of four finally got underway at 1730 BST.
Surrey's match against Middlesex at Guildford was the first to be called off without a ball bowled on what should have been day three.
Rain also prevented any cricket on the third day of Lancashire's match against Warwickshire at Old Trafford.
Nottinghamshire were aiming to play the first day of their Championship match against surprise title contenders Sussex.
But Trent Bridge was another venue where the rain came and just refused to budge.
It was a similar story in division two.
Play at Scarborough was called off for the day just after 1600 BST while Gloucestershire and Worcestershire had already been told they would not see any action at Cheltenham.
Both those games only have one day left to achieve a result.
The second day of Derbyshire's match against Durham, meanwhile, was declared a washout shortly before 1500 BST.
Northamptonshire beat the weather by defeating Somerset inside two days at Wantage Road while play between Glamorgan and India A at Swansea started at 1530 BST.
