County Championship D2, Chester-le-Street, day one (close): Yorkshire 340-6 v Durham
Yorkshire skipper Anthony McGrath top-scored with 86 as the visitors rallied after a shaky start against Durham at the Riverside.
England's McGrath shared a stand of 121 with Michael Lumb (43) to drag Yorkshire clear of trouble at 108-2 at lunch.
McGrath's fellow international Craig White then took over the mantle with 82 not out to steer his side into a respectable position.
White was accompanied at stumps by Andy Gray, who was defiant on 60.
Right-arm seamer Vince Wells was the pick of Durham's bowlers with 2-41 off 20 overs as England's Steve Harmison also claimed two scalps.
