County Championship D1, Leicester, day one (close): Sussex 51-0 v Leicestershire 320
Spinner Mushtaq Ahmed starred for second-placed Sussex before Leicestershire's Phil Defreitas led a fight-back at Grace Road.
Mushtaq took five wickets as the home side limped to 154-6 but former England international Phil DeFreitas hit 103 to steer his side away from the abyss.
James Kirtley and Robin Martin-Jenkins chipped in with two wickets apiece to finally end Leicestershire's innings as DeFreitas fell after facing 118 balls.
In reply, Murray Goodwin (34 not out) and Richard Montgomerie (13 not out) steered Sussex to stumps without the loss of a wicket.
Leicestershire's Indian Test star Virender Sehwag was rested with a minor back injury ahead of this weekend's Twenty20 cup finals day at Trent Bridge.
