NASSER HUSSAIN
Captain, right-hand batsman

FACTFILE
Nassre Hussain
DOB: 28.3.1968
Team: Essex
Test debut: v West Indies, Jamaica 1990
ODI debut: v Pakistan, Nagpur 1989

Hussain remains totally committed to the Test captaincy despite deciding to give up the leadership of the one-day side following a troubled World Cup campaign.

Has set his sights on becoming England's most successful skipper and starts the summer with 15 Test wins to his credit, just five fewer than Peter May's record.

His close working relationship with coach Duncan Fletcher has helped revive the side's fortunes in recent years, although two series against Australia ended in heavy defeats.

Hussain has a good Test record against South Africa, but although he made 113 in his first Test innings against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo seven years ago, he has failed to shine against them with the bat since then.

Should pass 5,000 Test runs during the summer, making him only the 15th England batsman to reach that milestone.
