Hollioake realistic on England
Surrey captain Adam Hollioake thinks it is "unlikely" he will ever play international cricket again.

HOLLIOAKE'S ENGLAND RECORD
35 ODIs, 14 as captain, 606 runs, 32 wickets
Four Tests, 65 runs, two wickets

Hollioake was a leading candidate to captain the England one-day team this summer after Nasser Hussain decided to give up the job, but lost out to Michael Vaughan.

And his international ambitions suffered another blow last week when he was not even included in the one-day squad as the selectors chose to give younger talent a chance.

"They've got to look to the future, to the 2007 World Cup and I suppose they want to have guys who are going to be at their peak when that comes around," Hollioake told BBC Radio Five Live.

Asked about his own prospects of a recall in the future, the 31-year-old replied: "You'd have to say it's unlikely, but I don't think you ever give up totally."

Hollioake has gained some consolation by winning the Professional Cricketers' Association Performance of the Month award for May after his 122 in the Championship game against Warwickshire.

His century took only 114 balls and included 15 fours and a six.

Thorpe backing

Surrey are bidding to win the title for the fourth time in five years and are already 28 points clear at the top of the table following their win over Sussex on Monday.

Hollioake, meanwhile, has urged the England selectors to restore Surrey team-mate Graham Thorpe to the Test side.

The left-hander has not played Test cricket since last July and opted not to go on the winter Ashes tour to Australia.

But Hollioake believes he is at the top of his game and in the right frame of mind for an England comeback.

"He's looking a million dollars, to be honest. England's loss is Surrey's gain at the moment - we're just glad to have him around, he's playing fantastically," he said.

"I wouldn't tell the selectors what to do, it's their prerogative, but he's been England's best batsman in the past, and at this particular moment he's playing better than I've ever seen him before."
