Tykes out of Trophy
C&G TROPHY FOURTH ROUND

Darren Gough

Worcestershire v Yorkshire

Nantie Hayward and David Leatherdale starred for Worcestershire as reigning champions Yorkshire were eliminated from the C&G Trophy.

The loss capped a bad day for the Tykes, who were denied the services of Anthony McGrath (side strain) and lost England paceman Matthew Hoggard after just three balls to a knee injury.

Leatherdale top-scored with 80 in the middle order, while South African paceman Hayward returned 5-49 as Yorkshire were dismissed in the 42nd over, 67 runs short of victory.

Durham v Lancashire

England paceman James Anderson was in the thick of the action as Lancashire sent Durham crashing out of the C&G Trophy.

Chasing 230 for victory, the hosts were fired out for just 86, with Anderson returning 3-14 from five overs.

Somerset v Surrey

Graham Thorpe
Thorpe got Surrey out of a spot of bother with a great knock

Graham Thorpe fired England selectors a reminder with a century as Surrey squeezed into the quarter-finals of the C&G Trophy.

Somerset's valiant run-chase ran out of steam in the final over as Surrey prevailed by six runs.

Thorpe's unbeaten 102 propelled Surrey to 281-6 from their 50 overs after Somerset won the toss and elected to field.

Glamorgan v Derbyshire

Chris Bassano's battling century led Derbyshire to a seven-wicket victory over Glamorgan.

The South African-born batsman battled stomach problems on his way to 121 as the visitors blazed past a target of 249 with nine overs to spare.

Kent v Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire, who won back-to-back knockout cups in 1999 and 2000, kept their 2003 campaign alive with a five-wicket victory over Kent at Canterbury.

Mike Smith led way with figures of 4-35 to bowl Kent out for 194, and Kiwi Craig Spearman top-scored for the visitors with 71 from 85 balls.

Leicestershire v Nottinghamshire

Leicestershire booked a place in the quarter-finals after veteran paceman Phil DeFreitas rocked Notts with a spirited opening spell at Grace Road.

Set an achievable target, Notts never recovered after slumping from 23-0 to 62-5, with DeFreitas bowling his 10 overs uninterrupted and finishing with the excellent figures of 3-20.

Middlesex v Sussex

Middlesex advanced to the quarter-finals of the C&G Trophy after keeping Sussex at bay at Lord's.

Sussex's batsmen paid the price of not going on after making starts, leaving the visitors 17 runs short of victory at the end of their 50 overs.

James Kirtley, whose 30 not out off 21 balls provided some late fireworks, earlier did the damage for Sussex with a five-wicket haul.

Warwickshire v Essex

Warwickshire enjoyed a miracle batting recovery to secure a three-wicket win over Essex.

Dougie Brown and stand-in skipper Ashley Giles were the stars, coming together at 83-6 to share a 170-run partnership, the Bears reaching a target of 257 with five balls left.
