Richard Pybus, who has quit as Pakistan coach, believes the structure of cricket in the country needs a radical overhaul.

Richard Pybus, who recently quit his post as Pakistan coach, believes cricket in the country needs a radical overhaul.
Pybus has drawn up a plan
The 38-year-old echoed the sentiments of Pakistan legend Imran Khan who earlier in the week stressed the need to change the first-class game.

Here are the key points from Pybus's plan to improve the state of Pakistani cricket.

  • Appointing fully qualified full-time coaches for all first class-sides

  • Improving the mindset: ensuring a culture of analysing opponents, looking for strengths and weaknesses, and developing strategies to win games.

  • Making sure there is proper medical back-up for all teams, such as physios and sports clinics.

  • Setting up a Pakistan national sports institute.

  • More use of technology.

Pybus added that he thinks the Pakistan players should spend as much time as possible in English county cricket.

"The likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and before them, Imran Khan, learned much of their cricketing skills from the English game."

Despite his obvious worries, the South African-based Englishman remained optimistic about Pakistan's future.

"Pakistan are ranked eighth in Test cricket, and that's no accident.

"However there are some talented cricketers coming through, like Mohammed Sami, Taufiq Umar and Younis Khan."
