England Women edged out
One-day match, Lincoln: New Zealand A 200-9 (49.4 overs) beat England Women 199-7 (50 overs) by one wicket

England completed their preparations for the four-nation World Series by losing out narrowly in a thrilling encounter.

Clare Connor's side fought back in determined fashion after New Zealand A reached 115 for no wicket.

Nicki Shaw claimed three for 33 and Sarah Collyer picked up two wickets as the home side collapsed from a commanding position.

Three run outs boosted England's chances but they needed one more wicket as Collyer began the final over and New Zealand A scraped home with two balls to spare.

Connor had earlier chosen to bat first after winning the toss, but had cause to regret her decision as Kathryn Leng went for a duck and Charlotte Edwards was out for one.

Claire Taylor steadied the innings with 38, but the bulk of England's runs came in a fourth wicket stand of 113 between Laura Newton and Arran Thompson.

Newton was eventually stumped two runs short of a half century, but Thompson went on to reach 75 before falling in similar fashion.

England: C Connor (capt), C Edwards, K Leng, Claire Taylor, L Newton, A THompson, S Collyer, D Holden, L SPragg, N Shaw, M Godliman.
