Academy chase ends in draw
Mark Wagh: Runs and wickets for the Academy
A frenetic finish saw England's Academy cricketers pulled up brutally short in their four day match against Australian Capital Territory in Canberra.
Chasing 267 for victory, England had dashed to 264 for five off just 55 overs when stumps were drawn on the final day. After Ian Bell's dismissal for 60, Kent batsman Robert Key came together with Alex Tudor in a last-gasp sixth wicket stand worth eight runs before the clock beat them, leaving Key unbeaten on 72. Warwickshire's Mark Wagh, who took three second innings wickets with his off-spin, then top-scored for the tourists with 73. Hampshire pace bowler Chris Tremlett also bagged three scalps as ACT were bowled out for 299 to set up the chase. The home side were hindered by the retirement hurt of leading batsman D Hazell, who made just a single after his first innings 199 before leaving the crease.
