Devon Smith blasted 169 to put West Indies U19s in complete control of the second Test against England after the first day at Trent Bridge.

The Grenada left-hander occupied the crease for 287 minutes, with 27 fours and two sixes as the tourists amassed a massive 400 for six in the day.

The 19-year-old overcame being hit on the hand by James Anderson off the third ball of the day to pass 50 for the sixth time against England this summer.

He and captain Brenton Parchment raced to 87 by the 15th over before James Anderson removed Parchment after he had been cracked for three fours in the over.

Andrew McGarry dropped Smith on 79 and tiredness got the better of him when he nicked Bilal Shafayat to wicketkeeper Steve Pope.

From Smith's dismissal, at 331 for four, England struck two more blows, but Tonito Willett was unbeaten on 40 to take the tourists to 400 run in a day.
