Lisa Dobriskey's father had to miss her victory in the women's 1500m - after paying for private physiotherapy for her, before the Games.
Mike Dobriskey watched his daughter's victory in a Didcot hotel room.
"We all wanted to go out there, but it just would have been too much with the cost," he told BBC Radio Kent.
"There were only a limited number of physios available through the England team, so we paid for it privately and it was about £100 an hour."
