David Florence meets the media ahead of the European Championships

Nottingham's David Florence is aiming to become the first slalom canoeist to win two gold medals in separate events at the upcoming European Championships.

The Olympic silver medallist will compete in the canoe single and double (with Richard Hounslow) at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

Florence said: "The paddling C2 (double) is something new for me that I took up since the Olympic Games.

"To get to do the first race on our own water is very exciting indeed."

Florence is Scottish by birth but trains at the National Water Sports Centre and lives in West Bridgford.

He added: "It's a complete new thing for me to be doing and it's a major event at home so it's a great opportunity."
