Injured Gavin Rees vacates British lightweight belt

Gavin Rees admits he has one last chance to shine in boxing

Gavin Rees has agreed to relinquish his British lightweight title to allow John Watson fight Anthony Crolla for the vacant belt on 12 February.

The Welshman was forced to turn down a potential British title rematch with Watson as Rees needed minor surgery on a long-standing nose problem.

So Watson will fight fellow Englishman Crolla at Liverpool's Olympia.

Rees' stable-mate Bradley Pryce will fight on the Watson v Crolla undercard in an non-title eight-round bout.

Welshman Pryce suffered a blow when his British light-middleweight title fight with reigning champion Sam Webb was postponed due to the Englishman's back injury.

Rees hopes to fight the winner of Watson v Crolla or hope for a shot at European champion John Murray when 'The Rock' returns to the ring in April.
