Chris Higgs forced to cancel Mark McCullough fight

Higgs has won all seven fights in his career since turning professional

Unbeaten Lydney boxer Chris Higgs has pulled out of his fight in Torquay on 6 March with cellulitis in his leg.

The 22-year-old lightweight was due to fight Mark McCullough, but is on anti-biotics and cannot train.

Higgs told BBC Gloucestershire: "I can't go in to the ring 50, 60 or 70% - everyone's coming to beat me.

"I've put all the hard work in, not having a social life really because I've been putting in all the effort and then it leads to being pulled out."

The setback is the latest in a series of events that have gone wrong for Higgs in the build-up to the fight.

He said: "Nothing's gone right.

"About three weeks ago I got cut in sparring and had to have five stitches above my eyelid and then last week I got cut again, this week I've got cellulitis in my leg.

"My manager said 'everything's gone wrong leading up to the fight, so something's telling us for you not to fight', so he's looking after me, but I'm gutted."

Higgs is next due to fight in Swindon on April 23.
