Munroe is desperate for a world title shot
|
Leicester's Rendall Munroe will make the fifth defence of his European super-bantamweight title against Simone Maludrottu next month. The boxing binman's latest defence had been scheduled for September. But it has now been confirmed on home soil at Nottingham's Harvey Hadden Sports Centre on Friday, 20 November. And Munroe's promoter Frank Maloney hopes to persuade the WBC to make the bout an eliminator for the world title held by Japan's Toshiaki Nishioka. Southpaw Munroe, who has a 19-1 win/loss record, is currently ranked at number two and Maludrottu 13th by the organisation. Maludrottu, 31, has held the European bantamweight title and challenged for the WBC crown in January 2008 where he lost on points to Japan's Hozumi Hasegawa. Munroe won his European crown in March 2008 when he defeated Kiko Martinez. But he has not boxed since February when he outpointed Issac Nettey to claim the Commonwealth title.
