Bellew looking to put on a show

Light-heavyweight Tony Bellew says he is hoping to "do a job" on Jevgenijs Andrejevs when the two men face off in Liverpool on Friday night.

Wavertree's Bellew, 25, faces the experienced Latvian on the undercard of Nathan Cleverly's Commonwealth Title fight against Tony Oakey.

"He's boxed three world champions and gone the distance with all of them," Bellew told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I'm just looking forward to getting in the ring and doing a job on him."

Big-hitting Bellew is unbeaten in his six professional contests, with four of those wins coming by stoppage.

His fight against Andrejevs at Everton Park Sports Centre is his first as a professional in his home city.

Bellew added he could not wait to climb through the ropes in front of a partisan crowd.

"I've dreamt of boxing in Liverpool since becoming a professional.

"The atmosphere is going to be unbelievable, I've got hundreds of people coming so people should come with ear muffs if they don't like noise."

Bellew is joined on the show by four other fighters from Merseyside.

They are Aintree brothers Stephen and Liam Smith, Liverpool's Joe Selkirk and Craig Lyon from St Helen's.

Smith. 20, is making his professional debut on the night.

The current Senior ABA light-welterweight champion has decided to move up to welterweight for life in the paid ranks.

He says he has done this with his long term career prospects in mind.

"I want to be fighting for titles in three years and in three years time I won't be able to make light-welterweight," said Smith.

He added: "I'm only 20 now, I'm still going to grow and I have loads of time to fill out so I might as well get used to all the welterweights now."
