Ajetovic gets world title chance

Geard Ajetovic
Ajetovic says he will not watch videos of his opponent

Kirkby-based Serbian middleweight Geard Ajetovic will challenge unbeaten IBO World Champion Daniel Geale on 27 June.

The 27-year-old counter-puncher, a Sydney Olympian in 2000, will fight the Australian champion in Sydney.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I've waited a long time for this fight. This is an opportunity to change my life and I'm not going to let it go.

"I'm going to train hard and prove to everyone that I am capable of reaching the top."

Ajetovic gets his title opportunity after seeing a proposed fight against European champion Sebastian Sylvester fall through earlier this year.

He admitted that he had found recent set-backs difficult to take.

"My head has been wrecked but I have been in the gym every single day.

"George (his trainer George Schofield) has kept me strong mentally and in the end we have had the good news about fighting for a world title.

As an amateur he boxed for Serbia and the former Yugoslavia for 14 years, winning 11 national titles.

I will work him out straight away

Geard Ajetovic

He feels that his experience as an amateur boxer will help him when he fights against Daniel Geale - a man he acknowledges he knows little about.

"I'm not interested in watching videos because I will work him out straight away in the ring.

"If not in the first round, the second. Then I'll know what to do."
